Mini Lady E

So here's a photo of my Lady Eleanor, though it will be a bit smaller than the average. I actually started it as a swatch out of some stash yarn, and then kept going. I even found some extra Kuryeon (#147) in the same dye lot so I could finish it! It's about 12" wide, and we'll see how long. Next up will be the braided cables.....

Another Newbie here

I was interested in this book after seeing the Here and There Cables, and Lady Eleanor. After being directed here (thanks Hillary) I fell in love with Backyard Leaves. Now that I have the book, I am a little weary about whether I can handle it (I am a self-taught knitter!) There are at least ten projects I want to make from this book, and the list keeps growing as I see everyone's work!

I started Midwest Moonlight and am JUST about to start row 9. I'm a little nervous/confused about the [yo, ssk]. I'll give it a go and hope I don't have to frog it - lol. I'll share pictures of my progress as soon as I figure out how to add pictures.

Thanks for including me Tipper!

To Fringe or Not to Fringe?

I finished my Lady Eleanor! Here she is, in all her glory. Nevermind the odd background color - my photos were too dark so I attacked them with Photoshop. Lady E is actually a bit brighter in real life, but difficult to photograph...I am SO overjoyed with this scarf/wrap - it's by far my favorite thing that I've knit so far, and I'm already itching to make another (although does anyone need two of these? It's pretty distinctive...)
I used almost exactly 10 skeins of Noro Silk Garden, colorway 225, on size 9 needles. Post blocking, she is ~75 inches long and probably 15-18 (didn't measure) inches wide. Just about what I wanted, although I was limited in my blocking by only having a double bed and not wanting to involve the floor, so she could have been longer. Lady E took me about 2.5 months of pretty steady knitting, minus 2 weeks for the Knitting Olympics (gold medal for my first socks!).
So, I want to pose a question for all the experienced Lady E knitters and Scarf Style gurus, and that is: Should I add fringe? I have another skein of yarn, but I'm really torn about it. I love the look of the lacy fringe (like in the book), and I loved the Lady E with the beaded fringe that was posted a few weeks ago, and the tassel-type fringe is lovely as well, but I'm not sure I'm a fringe person. What do you all think? Any comments/suggestions will be most appreciated!

Dragon as Vest... finished!

Ruby

Hi there!
Just wanted to share my "Nasty Dog Dragon" vest, finished this weekend. The colors are different, and there's a little fire coming out of her mouth, but otherwise I stayed true to the pattern. (Oh, except it's on a vest, not a scarf.) It's done in Lavold's "Silky Wool." My son, Zack (aka "Brave Sir Zack") is the model. We have a whole series of bedtime stories about "Brave Sir Zack" and his dragon "Ruby." Hence the color change on the pattern. This was REALLY FUN. It's easier than you think, because many of the blocks of color are so small you need only a short strand of yarn, rather than a tangly bobbin. LOT of ends, but it's worth it.

Another Ruffles Scarf

Hi there-

This is my first post and the first KAL I've joined so I hope I'm doing this correctly. I was so inspired by everyone's projects on this blog that I had to buy Scarf Style and join the fun. I've completed the ruffles scarf using Manos Cotton Stria in mint (the picture doesn't show the color very well) and I love it so much I'm tempted to start a second using two colors - pink and white for my little girl. Backyard Leaves is calling my name along with Vintage Velvet and several others.
Suzanne

Stats: Manos Cotton Stria in Mint, close to 4 skeins, size 5 needles, approximately 90" long

One Stripe Turtleneck Shrug

Well it's a good thing cooler weather is still around here in Atlanta, because I just finished my Turtleneck Shrug! I was worried I'd have to wait until next year to wear it. Woo hoo! I used Andean Silk from KnitPicks.com and knit with a size 4 needle. The sleeves are about 2.5 inches shorter than the pattern calls for. Still - they're pretty long on me. On one sleeve, I knit a lighter green stripe with some leftover yarn from my stash.

This is a very comfortable shrug, but I am considering shrinking it a bit. I've knit 2 others from another pattern that fit really snuggly and stayed in place. This one, after a few minutes of moving around (I'm right handed), shifts off my right shoulder. I think if it were tighter, it wouldn't move around as much. Any opinions? Advice?

Thanks for inspiring me everyone,

~Anne

Hi!

I'm new to this blog, but have been reading it for a while. I've just started on my first project from Wrap Style, the Twisty Turns wrap. I'm almost to the end of the knitting part, and will be starting the sewing soon! Here's a picture of my progress. I'm using Knit Picks Wool of the Andes.

Wandering Aran Fields

Just joined this KAL and wanted to show Wandering Aran Fields from Wrap Style. I used Knitpicks Andean Silk in Leaf. One of my New Year's resolutions for knitting was to give a cables a try and this was it. A great project and I've been enjoying wearing it.

Hello Everyone

and thanks Tipper for adding me to the list. I am going to attempt to knit Ene's Scarf. I'm using Blackberry Ridge 100% Wool in Medium Wedgewood. So far I have only accomplished casting on the 375 stitches. This is by far the very most I have ever casted on at one time. I used stitch markers to help keep track! I look forward to posting about my progress and have already enjoyed looking at everyones projects.

Nordic Lights

I finished my Nordic Lights capelet (done in Cascade).

Nordic Lights

This was a fun project since you're knitting on circs until you get to the neck and the constant color changes mean NO BOREDOM :) I do wish one of the sides was smoother transition-wise but c'est la vie.

Ruffle trouble

I have a question for all you knitting experts out there! I am knitting the Ruffle scarf. It is taking me forever ... but it is coming along. Here is my progress as of a few days ago ...

My question is ... does anyone know why the ruffles are collapsing, so that 2 are stuck together? Wrong needle size? I don't know, but I thought someone might have a theory. I do like it, but it looks different from all others I have seen and I am wondering why!?

Lady Eleanor Complete

Well, I actually finished my Lady about a month ago. I LOVE it! I have received so many compliments on her. I used 10 skeins Noro Silk Garden in #230 on size 8 needles. I didn't count all the repeats. I cut the fringe at the end of my last ball to ensure I had enough and used almost every bit of the 10 skeins.

Intro & My first Finished Scarf.

I just got Scarf Style for Christmas this past December, and I fell in love with bunches of patterns. I was drawn to Vintage Velvet for some reason, but I just couldn't quite justify the yarn.

Then I stopped in my LYS and they had a basket of it up front. The folks who say that touching it sells it are right - I ended up buying it right then and there.

This was a fast knit. I'd sworn I wasnt' going to do cables again after I finished a 6-foot DNA helix scarf for my husband for Christmas, but it was fun. I was terrified to felt it, so I knitted my leftover yarn into a small square and did that first, to prove to myself it would work. It did, and the scarf worked beautifully too.

I've also done a Shippo Tail scarf, and I'm working on Ene right now. A tip for the marker-moving problem, by the way. I use soft rubber stitch markers, and you can pull the passed-over stitches right over the markers without them getting knitted into the material. I was able to use those for all the repeats in the border to keep them straight, and they were a lifesaver. I'm just about done with my first repeat of Chart 3.

grand plan capelets?

Hi --

I'm thinking of starting on a grand plan capelet, and don't see any references to them here... Has anyone made or started one? I'd love to see some variations on them using different yarns.

thanks,
Frasera

Hi everyone. This is my first post at this knit-a-long. I have been reading this site for awhile now, admiring the entrelac, and all the other beautiful creations.

I am making the turtleneck shrug and the ruffles scarf.

I always liked the pattern for the turtleneck shrug, but when I saw my friend Tanya's, I was sold.

Tanya's Turtleneck Shrug

She suggested I add a thumbhole to mine, which I did.

My turtle neck shrug in progress...

The yarn is Luxury Collection Baby Silk (baby alpaca and silk) and it is sooooo soft. I love love love it. I think it won't take me long to finish this puppy at all.

Lady Eleanor, at 80%

I've been lurking on this knit-along for months, and finally decided to join. There are several scarfs I'm itching to make from Scarf Style, and seeing what you all have made has been really inspiring. My first project was actually Backyard Leaves, but it's currently on the backburner with 4 repeats completed, and I'll hopefully pick it up in time to finish it for my mother for Christmas this year. Sadly, it was supposed to be for last Christmas, but I bit off more than I could chew...
Just after New Years I started my Lady Eleanor, and I love her! Although I was scared of enterlac, the pattern is really easy and the yarn I'm using is great (despite the bits of 'natural material' I keep finding). Here she is, in repose on the sofa, at the beginning of the 8th ball of Noro Silk Garden. This is colorway 225, and it's very pretty. Hard to get a good photo of the colors, but it's mostly dark with teal and pink, and some browns and purples thrown in. I'm starting to think she might not be long enough, but I might be able to get past that with blocking. I'm planning to use my whole 10 skeins and then buy another, regardless of dyelot, for the fringe.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the knit-along still open?

This knit-along is ongoing; there is no end date in sight.

2. How do I join the knit-along?

Send an email to Tipper. If you have a specific e-mail address you would like me to use to sign you up, please include it in your email. Otherwise, I will use the e-mail address you used to contact me.

3. What happens when I send an e-mail to join?

When you send an email, I send you an invite through Blogger. Blogger will send you a link to confirm your membership. If you have a Blogger username, simply enter this and your password and you're all set. If you do not have a Blogger username, you will need to create one before you'll be a member.

4. Do I need a blog to join?

No, only an email address. However, when you sign up, you will be asked to create a username, and you can create a blog (for free!) at this time.

5. How do I post a picture?

When you create a new Blogger post, you'll see icons above the text you're typing. Click on the icon on the right; this will pop up a window that has a few options. You can upload a picture from your computer, insert a picture from a website (use this option if you've already uploaded a picture elsewhere), and select where in the post the picture will be placed. When you've entered the necessary information, select "upload picture" and Blogger will automatically insert the code into your post.

6. The sidebar isn't appearing at the top of the page; what's wrong?

When this happens, someone has posted a picture that is too wide or an URL that is too long. Use TinyURL.com (or HTML code) to make your URL smaller, and make sure your photos are no more than 425 pixels wide.

7. My name isn't appearing in the sidebar. Am I still a member?

I haven't quite figured out how Blogger decides which names to insert into the sidebar and in what order; my best guess is that it will show nicknames (which you can enter into your profile) and will refresh when a new post is made. As long as I've sent you an invite and you've completed the process, you're a member.

8. How do I link my name to my website?

If you enter a website URL into that field in your profile, the posts you make will link your name to your website. Otherwise, they will link to the knit-along blog.

9. Where can I find the patterns you talk about?

All of the patterns we talk about are from either Scarf Style or Wrap Style, both published by Interweave Press.

10. Can you send me a pattern?

ABSOLUTELY NOT. Patterns are protected by copyright laws, and it's illegal to distribute them. If you want one, buy the book, and you'll find even more patterns that you'll want to knit or crochet!

Lady Eleanor, but No Gold!

Lady E. Is the perfect project--the pattern was perfectly written, the yarn was a perfect match for the pattern, the process was enjoyable, and the product is stunning. I used every bit of the ten skeins (Noro Silk Garden, #201/size 7s), and had I had another skein in the stash, I might have just used that one, too! While this was my Knitting Olympics Project, I fell short of gold with half a skein to go and one edge to fringe--so I finished it the next day, blocked it (this worked really well: wet towel on the ironing board, Lady E. on the wet towel, pillowcase on Lady E. and then iron with steam!!) and wore it to the airport to pick up my darling from his trip. So I felt victorious on may fronts beyond the Olympics.
