New Member with Turtleneck Shrug

Hello everybody, I'm new to the group and I'm very glad to be a part of such a great knitting community. Many thanks to Tipper for inviting me.

In november 2006 I knitted the Turtleneck Shrug which was my very favourite pattern out of the wonderful book Scarf Style. I used "Pashmina" from Lana Grossa in a warm shade of orange which was a pleasure to work with. In the front of the shrug I worked the decreases in every fourth row, in the back I didn't work any decreases because of my wide shoulders.

I like to wear this shrug in public. It is cosy and warm and: it is really a different garment.

Recently I finished Lady Eleonore, too. Pictures will follow in a few days.

Turtleneck Shrug

Pattern: Turtleneck Shrug
Yarn: 7 hanks Elsebeth Lavold Angora in Aubergine
Needles: Denise Interchangeables Size 6 16 inch
Started: 9/16/06
Finished: 2/11/07
This yarn is super soft, and the pattern was easy to knit. However, my turned out to be a mock neck rather than a turtleneck, as I ran out of yarn. It's ok. I still think it's cute, and definitely warm. And, I'm glad I finally finished it.

Turtleneck Shrug Question

I'm working on the Turtleneck Shrug, and have a quick question. On the sleeves, which way should I slip the stitches for the selvedge, knitwise or purlwise? Thanks for your help! I'm loving everyone's beautiful pictures!

Another Turtleneck Shrug!

Hi! I'm Nicole and I just started the Turtleneck Shrug. I've got one sleeve mostly done, the shrug would completely done except I'm working on several Christmas gifts right now. I love this color, and the yarn is Red Heart Soft Yarn, it feels really nice. I'll post more pics here and on my blog, Nicole Knits as I get more progess on it. :)

Finished Turtleneck Shrug

It's finished and...it fits! I made this with the recommended yarn (Rowan Kid Classic: Color 831 - Charcoal grey with a twist of black). This project definitely takes longer than you might think! But, it is super warm and will come in handy in the Fall/Winter.

Turtleneck Shrug

It's done! I added little thumbholes to it, and stripes. I don't have a pattern notes or anything for the thumbholes, really I just stuck a yarn over, knit two together in there for the thumb. If I were to do it again I would probably make the thumb hole bigger somehow.



Any suggestions on a neater way of doing a thumbhole? Is there a pattern anywhere for free on the net that I could copy the thumbhole design from?

I think I'd make this turtleneck shrug again. I like the pattern. It's a unique looking thing. I used Luxury Collection Baby Silk and 4.5mm needles. The yarn is OOoooh so soft, and it has a shine to it.

Turtleneck Shrug Sleeves?

So I'm nearing the end of my first sleeve in the turtleneck shrug. I'm just about up to the armpit, and it's only 18". I remember some of you mentioning that the sleeves were a bit too long for you, but at what point in the knitting should I start the top shaping?
I'm thinking, knit to the pit, then do the CO15 and knit up the shoulder? Does this sound right for those of you who've already done this? Any advice (for this or beyond)would be appreciated! Thanks!

PS: this is Patons Classic Merino in "tree bark mix". Fairly soft and nice and thick. (and much, much less expensive than using Rowan Kid Classic, although I'd like to have!)

One Stripe Turtleneck Shrug

Well it's a good thing cooler weather is still around here in Atlanta, because I just finished my Turtleneck Shrug! I was worried I'd have to wait until next year to wear it. Woo hoo! I used Andean Silk from KnitPicks.com and knit with a size 4 needle. The sleeves are about 2.5 inches shorter than the pattern calls for. Still - they're pretty long on me. On one sleeve, I knit a lighter green stripe with some leftover yarn from my stash.

This is a very comfortable shrug, but I am considering shrinking it a bit. I've knit 2 others from another pattern that fit really snuggly and stayed in place. This one, after a few minutes of moving around (I'm right handed), shifts off my right shoulder. I think if it were tighter, it wouldn't move around as much. Any opinions? Advice?

I've shrugged myself!

I was hesitant to join a knit-a-long because knowing me it would jinx me but au contraire I've found it very motivating and very helpful! I've recently finished the Turtleneck Shrug from Scarf Style. I absolutely love it! It's very fun to wear and such a unique design. Living in France, very much a scarf culture, I dare to wear this scarf/shrug out as much as I can.

It's weird having my back exposed but once you're used to it, well you're used to it!

Turtleneck Shrug

Here's my turtleneck shrug! What I love the most about it is the fabolous yarn, Idéna mohair lux bought in my local yarn shop, and the long sleeves. You can read more details about the process in this post in my blog.

Turtleneck shrug on the way

Started my turtleneck shrug in Idéna Mohair Lux a few weeks ago. I've knitted other things during the time, but this one is now on the top of my list, so I believe I'll finish it within a few days. The yarn is so lovely, I just wanted to show it off.

It's terribly dark in Scandinavia now during the middle of the winter, so it is only possible to get good light on and take pictures of my items when I'm at home in the middle of the day during the week ends. It's dark when I go to the office and dark again when I go home again.

Actually, it's been finished for a while, but I'm just now getting around to taking pictures of it. Here it is:



I used Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride in Onyx. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It's very warm and cozy.

Teva's Turtleneck Shrug

First of all, I want to tell all of your Scarf Stylers that you are doing an awesome job. Everytime I check in here I expand the list of scarves I want to knit from this book. Lady Eleanor. Backyard Leaves. Forbes Forest. Wow.

I have my first finished object to contribute: Teva Durham's Turtleneck Shrug.



I knit it with three skeins of Cascade 220 in color #9339, which is blue with flecks of green. It is the perfect San Francisco accessory, as it provides a little extra warmth on breezy days without being too hot. Like Karen said earlier, it really extends your t-shirt wardrobe. Despite the skepticism I heard while making it, I have received several compliments. I also want to say that Teva is a great designer. I made another of her patterns, the Leaf Cravat, and was amazed by how the design worked out. I can't wait for her book to come out later this spring.

Hey Stylers!

I am a latecomer to this knit-along and to the book. Although I had coveted it for many months, I didn't managed to pick it up until a few weeks ago. In order to catch-up I immediately started in on Teva Durham's Turtleneck Shrug in a lovely shade of blue-green Cascade 220. I am taking a brief break to work on a baby sweater, but here is what I have so far:



I am already in love with this interesting take on a scarf and can't wait to wear it.

I also just got some laceweight yarn from Knitpicks to start Ene's Scarf for my grandma. Has anyone knit this? I would love any advice you might have. Everyone's scarves look amazing! I love visiting this blog.
