Finished shawl

I finished the sheltland lace shawl...

This is a great, simple lace pattern. Easy enough for a lace beginner...and a fabulous pattern to make any size.
More pics on my blog.

Well.. I finally broke down and bought the Wrap book... I had a 40% off coupon for JoAnns so that was a perfect time to get it :)
There are so many wraps I want to make that I can't decide which one to go for first...
I love the spiral one so maybe that is where I will start...I'll let you know what I decide on and what yarn I will be using...

Help!

I keep seeing these gorgeous Shetland lace shawls and decided to make one my first lace project, but I just don't understand the cast on.
Any tips?

Sheltland Lace Shawl.

Hello knitters! It's been a while, but I am still here....watching you all knit the fabulous patterns from scarfstyle and wrapstyle.
I started the Sheltland Lace Shawl...

So far so good. The pattern is quite simple, and is just gorgeous. I am using Regia Silk...more on the blog.

Now I get it. . .

It only took me three or four times of casting on the 375 stitches, re-knitting the first three to five rows, and one MAGNET BOARD. And now I finally got it. I'm telling you Ene's Scarf almost kicked me down. But there's something about being able to read the pattern upright and having the other rows blocked off that makes knitting this lace so much easier. I'm only on row 12 but it's working and going much faster. I also learned how to fix mistakes without having to rip back rows. Now I think I can call myself a lace knitter!

Backyard Leaves - Karabella Aurora 8

Pattern: Backyard Leaves by Annie Modesitt
Book: Scarf Style

Yarn Brand: Karabella
Yarn Name: Aurora 8
Yarn Colorway: 10
Yarn Content: 100% Extra Fine Merino Wool
Amount of yarn used: 4 balls exactly (1 ball = 98 yards)
Needle: Size 9 US 24" (Inox)

Gauge: 18 stitches = 4 inches

Dimensions: Approximately 68" long and 5" wide - depending on where you measure. The scarf's edges are scalloped and the end of the scarf is forked.

Project Duration: 03/04/2006 - 04/19/2006 (47 days) Yeesh!!! Too long!
Project Notes:
This scarf is worked in 2 halves and then seamed together. I only had enough yarn for 10 repeats instead of the suggested 11. I had to up my needle size to get gauge. All in all, it was a pretty fun pattern to knit. You can read more of my musings here.

By the way, how do you all like the Photoshop effects? I'm not sure if I plan to keep doing this, but it's sorta cool.

Happy Knitting.

Mikki's Cashmere Crossings

My version of the cashmere crossings - done in Cascade Cherub Aran. I skipped a cable repeat in front and back - to adjust for yarn and size of intended wearer! As it is, it took 9 balls of yarn. She fluttered like a butterfly! Posted by Picasa

Shetland Triangle I and II

Mari`s post reminded me to finally upload pictures of the two Shetland Triangles I made a while ago. The blue one is knit with Knitpicks Shadow and needles size 4. I loved the pattern so much that I made another one for my grandmother, this time using Knitpics Alpaca Cloud in the Iris colorway and needles size 2. Both times, I made more pattern repeats and used about two skeins.

Turtleneck Shrug Sleeves?

So I'm nearing the end of my first sleeve in the turtleneck shrug. I'm just about up to the armpit, and it's only 18". I remember some of you mentioning that the sleeves were a bit too long for you, but at what point in the knitting should I start the top shaping?
I'm thinking, knit to the pit, then do the CO15 and knit up the shoulder? Does this sound right for those of you who've already done this? Any advice (for this or beyond)would be appreciated! Thanks!

PS: this is Patons Classic Merino in "tree bark mix". Fairly soft and nice and thick. (and much, much less expensive than using Rowan Kid Classic, although I'd like to have!)

Finished Twisty Turns

Hi All! I finished my Twisty Turns Wrap. This was such an easy knit, good for TV knitting. Figuring out how to sew the wrap together-which section connected to which section-was easier than I anticipated. However, the directions on which stitch to sew into was a little confusing. I used almost 7 balls of Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in Avocado to knit this. Overall I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

Spring break Lady Eleanor

I have loved every single version of the Lady Eleanor's that have been posted. I was able to finish mine over the spring break. We actually had two breaks 'cause my daughter had hers in March and my sons had theirs last week. I used 10 skeins of Karaoke in #285 Intensity.

Mikki's Cashmere Crossings

Thanks for inviting me to add to your blog! I have been working on Cashmere Crossings - not in cashmere! I am using Cascade Cherub Aran. I am making it for my dd so I wanted something that could handle soccer games and such.
Because of the Aran weight yarn and that I am making it for a 10 yr old I am scaling down the pattern.
I am nearing the end of it. On my last ball of yarn, only a dozen or so rows to finish!

Backyard leaves continues to progress slowly. I've been looking at finished examples, and decided I like the unblocked ones the best, with their springly leaves. My only problem is that I cast on too tightly and was hoping to work that out in the blocking process. Has anyone ever unraveled a cast-on edge and reworked it more loosely? Would that be feasible with this pattern?

Onward!

Backyard Leaves - Malabrigo Yarn?

I love malabrigo/handpainted yarn as it is SO soft and I just placed an order for some in a beautiful green color. I'd love to make Backyard Leaves with it but would like some opinions from you fiber experts about whether that is a good substitution for Karabella Aurora 8 or not. Does anyone foresee any difficulties for using a soft merino wool instead of a merino blend?

Thanks!

Midwest Moonlight

I re-started Midwest Moonlight last night after having to rip it out once . I must have missed one yarn over, because I was short one stitch on the following row, but now I get it! :)

I'm using Marks & Kattens "Dream" on size 4mm needles. (The label suggests 4.5mm, but the pattern says 4mm...I hope that is okay, I really don't know much about yarn weights, needles, etc). It DOES feel very cuddly though! I'm enjoying this pattern and am planning to make one for my mom also.

Backyard Leaves Karabella

Just a quick question here. Those knitting Backyard Leaves with the original yarn, are you all short on yarn? The pattern calls for 11 repeats for the first half, and I'm almost out of yarn. I find with 2 balls of Karabella Aurora 8, I can barely make it to 10 repeats. Anyone?
