The Ruffle grows

This is a fun one to work on. Someone here posted a photo of a two tone one on their blog that looked great (each side off the middle was a different color so it looked almost like a barber shop pole). That is how I'm going to make the version of this for me :-)

The humble beginnings of the Campus Scarf

The shipping box makes a very nice yarn holder, in addition to being full of tasty packing tape (according to the kitties).

It's knitting up very quickly (in fact, I've added two inches since I took the picture). But the more I look at it, the more I realize it doesn't do what it's trying to do. It's described as kind of fake plaid - the combination of the stripes and texture is supposed to do it. But it doesn't work that way. It looks like stripes on texture... and that's it. It's still nice, aside from the unsightly ridge that pops up when switching between sections of texture. And, good lord, I'm gonna have a billion ends to weave in. There's only one spot on each chunk where the main color doesn't have to be cut, and weaving in ends is going to be a bitch on the little stripes of color (two fat ends, two rows worth of color). But I shall persevere!

Administrative notes.

FYI - I'm able to edit posts. So if you notice HTML getting corrected or a picture resized, blame it on me. :) I won't edit your content itself, but if something throws off the blog, I'll try to fix it. Tonight I discovered that pictures over 425 pixels wide mess up the blog format, so please make sure you've reduced your pictures to that size or smaller.

On that note, you also have the option of using BloggerBot to insert pictures; this means they won't need to be placed on a seperate server, and the program automatically resizes and allows you to add captions, etc. If you're interested, download the program, choose a username, and you're all set! I've heard that it's a great little program, and it's FREE.

The knit-along is growing by leaps and bounds! Hello to all of you new members!

Here and There Cables

I had no idea that the Ruffles scarf was so popular until I started reading blogs again! It is cute & I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's progress.

The scarf that I had to do first was the Here and There Cables. I started it a few days ago and it's going pretty well. It's my first time using a cable needle and it's not that difficult. It's awkward more than anything.

Here's a shot of my scarf :

Late to the Party!

Hi! Jennifer here. I'm just getting ready to get started on the "Color on Color" scarf. My plan is to use it as a piece of "art" in our living room, which is without any color. I'm interested to learn some of the techniques that I've not tackled before (Fair Isle!), so this will be a challenge as well as a fun knit. I've finally got the Denise cords cleared off, yarn for the first 10 sections-I think I'm ready to go!

Hello from Abbey

Hi everyone! I am starting the Ruffles scarf, and I want to do the vintage velvet scarf too....and then there's that crochet/beaded scarf..... I love this book.

I work at a yarn shop, and we got the Classic Elite Premier yarn in, so I decided to make the scarf for display in the shop. I love how this yarn feels.
It took me a little while to get the pattern down. Is anyone else seeing that the 'spine' of the scarf is knit pretty loosly? I'm using size 6 needles, but I wonder if I should go down to 5's.

and Molly...I don't know if you can substitute yarn on the Vintage Velvet scarf. You'd have to find another chenille with wool in it,(touch me has 28% wool) since the scarf is lightly felted to give that vintage look.

Another Ruffle maker

Hi I'm new here. The ruffle scarf just called to me to be knit.... so my mom is getting one for christmas. The Camel Hair yarn I picked up at elann.com should work out pretty well for this. I'll post a photo once I get going (so tomorrow :-) )

My fingers itch!

Sure, I've got other things to knit (right now, a Lopi pullover and a pair o' socks), but I want to make another scarf! I'm eagerly awaiting my package of Mission Falls wool from Busy Hands Yarn (for the Campus Scarf). It was on sale at $3.95 a ball, so I couldn't resist. I'm crossing my fingers that I'll have enough leftovers to make a hat (it's like two projects for the price of one, people!).

Anyway, I guess I'm the odd one out here. Everyone else is making that noodley thing! :)

Interlocking Balloons is now... over.

Hey, I didn't promise that it would be exciting, did I?

It looks pretty much like the one in the book, though maybe a little shorter. Not that it matters, as necessity is the mother of invention, and I remembered that I know a very short dude: my dad. I went down to a #5 needle because on #6s things were hanging a little loose (not in the good way). I used two balls of Brown Sheep Naturespun Sport, which means my scarf cost about an eighth of what the one in the book does. Yay for being cheap!

The boyfriend does deserve a scarf, though. (This was intended for him, but since he's 6'4", a 5-foot scarf isn't gonna do.) He expressed interest in the Mission Falls wool stripey thing that Mr. "Yes, the tuft of hair IS on the right lip... really!" is modeling. Ack - just what I need. More yarn I need to buy.

I finally got my book in the mail yesterday and have been drooling over everything in it ever since! I still think I want to do Ruffles first but there are just so many to choose from! I am going thru my stash and deciding if I actually have something that will work for it and going to try and make a decision and start within the next couple of days.
