I forgot to post this until just today. I knitted this is alpaca for a knitting friend for Xmas. I'm so glad to see that she wears it as a scarf and shawl all the time. And, she's very particular. As easy as this pattern was, I did a fair amount of frogging. Not sure why...

Midwest Moonlight Scarf (or Storm Water Scarf)

I've just completed the Midwest Moonlight Scarf, which, by the way, is the same pattern as the Fleece Artist Storm Water Scarf. This was done in seasilk and looks and feels (and smells) fantastic! A few more pics can be found on my blog.

Midwest Moonlight completed!

Love it! The yarn is Debbie Bliss Cathay, a cotton/silk/microfibre blend - it has beautiful sheen and texture, and was wonderful to knit with. This is going to be a gift for my fiance's sister for Christmas. Can't wait to start another scarf from this book! More pics on my blog for those interested.

Finished! I picked up my last skein of Blue Sky Alpacas alpaca and silk, (in Amethyst), about three weeks ago at Wildfiber and finished up my Midwest Moonlight, by Ivy Bigelow in Scarf Style.

Project Notes: I made some mods to the original pattern since I didn't want it so wide. I cast on 33 stitches instead of 49 so this made two repeats instead of three. I used a size 5 needle since that's what worked well with this yarn. BTW, I LOVE this yarn! It is so soft although some of the plies came apart because the needles have sharp points. This was just the perfect summer project since the yarn is very light and the lace effect is stunning.

Midwest Moonlight Dressing table mat

Hiya, I've come up with another use for Ivy Bigelow's Midwest Moonlight pattern!
I started making it in Debbie Bliss Cotton Cashmere and soon began to realise that the yarn and pattern were not exactly in perfect harmony - the cotton blend yarn was too crisp and lacking in drape for a scarf. (See what happens when you don't swatch....)
I knew I was beat but rather than rip it out I thought maybe it would be more appropriate as a mat, so I persevered for a few more repeats and ended up with a rather fetching household linen.
I'm sure I'll try the pattern again in the near future in a more appropriate yarn for a scarf. 

Midwest Moonlight

I re-started Midwest Moonlight last night after having to rip it out once . I must have missed one yarn over, because I was short one stitch on the following row, but now I get it! :)

I'm using Marks & Kattens "Dream" on size 4mm needles. (The label suggests 4.5mm, but the pattern says 4mm...I hope that is okay, I really don't know much about yarn weights, needles, etc). It DOES feel very cuddly though! I'm enjoying this pattern and am planning to make one for my mom also.

Midwest Moonlight- why can't I make a decision

So, I started Midwest Moonlight and stuck to the width of the pattern and thought "oh this is too wide..." I re-started with one less repeat and it seems to narrow-- or should I say luxurious.

What is Goldilocks to do? Really wide and need to fold in half or narrow?

Using Knit Picks Merino and it was to be a X-Mas gift to my SIL in Ireland... but in yet more evidence of my overall indeciveness, I couldnt decide between giving her that or Branching Out. I got her a book instead. I did make Branching Out (which went to someone else) and thought I would also do in Midwest Moonlight for X-Mas 2006... but then again, who knows what else I will jump out as a choice by then.

Midwest Moonlight, My Way

My boss returned from TNNA with a small ball of this wonderful new stuff from Artyarns called Silk Rhapsody, which is one strand of Regal Silk and one strand of kid mohair together. The yarn is fantastic, super soft, comfortable next to the skin, very luxuriant. It has a wonderful hazy halo and positively glows when knit up.
I worked this on size six needles, cast on 33 stitches thereby reducing the width by one repeat. I was hoping to have enough to get a small scarflet out of. The project ended at 37" long and is 6" wide - perfect for topping jeans and giving a little kick to every-day garb. I have not blocked it, because that would require me taking it off! It does not really need blocking. It's just yummy, and feels sinful!! Every knitter should have at least one hank of this stuff in his/her lifetime!

Midwest Moonlight- shorten row?

I started Midwest Moonlight (knit picks merino style) and it seems wide. How many of you alum's of this pattern experienced this- did you cut one of the lace/solid row repeats or are you folding it in half when worn? Just curious. (I've only done a few inches so I can be "curious"... once I do a few more, I will be "committed.")

Midwest Moonlight / Mr. Moonlight

Whenever I went to pick up the Midwest Moonlight I was working on the Beatles song, Mr. Moonlight had to be sung.

But sometimes instead of the "come again please" I would be singing, "go away please".

Now that it is blocking, I see that there are a few errors. But no biggie because it is black and will be worn on a black coat (my sister’s) and that is that. It is pretty though. Here is a pic of it blocking on one of those foam floor tile thingies so you can really see the lace squares.



I used KnitPicks fingering weight yarn, incredibly inexpensive Palette. Only $1.79 per ball, 231 yards/50 gr and used only 2 of the 3 I had purchased. That makes a great scarf for only $3.58!!!

Even though I had occassional fits with the black yarn, which was more than a bit splity, I am thinking I could make another whole scarf out of that one ball if I make it half as wide. I like skinny scarves but working on black yarn is kind of a pain. Best to start another project first and then see how I feel about it later.

Midwest Moonlight

Here is me in my newly completed Midwest Moonlight Scarf. I love it! The whole time I was knitting I kept thinking "its too stiff, its too stiff". But after a bath in eucalan and an evening spent blocking, its wonderfully soft and drapey. Whew!

I highly recommend this pattern. I was about a quarter of the way through the scarf when I finally memorized the pattern, and it was smooth sailing from there.

Midwest Moonlight-Maybe

I started this scarf last week, decided it was too wide, frogged it, and started again with one less repeat. I'm not sure I like it in this yarn (Cascade Elite Miracle, 50% alpaca, 50% tencel that I bought for 50% off!). Any thoughts?

I may frog again and try Misty Garden.

Hi - I'm Linda and I'm new to the knitalong. I'm knitting Midwest Moonlight from knit picks merino style in rhubarb. Even though I keep messing up the pattern I'm enjoying it very much.
