Finished Turtleneck Shrug

It's finished and...it fits! I made this with the recommended yarn (Rowan Kid Classic: Color 831 - Charcoal grey with a twist of black). This project definitely takes longer than you might think! But, it is super warm and will come in handy in the Fall/Winter.

Here and There braid question

Dear all,

Thanks for a wonderful blog. I received the book as a gift at Christmas and have had great fun with it. I've enjoyed reading all the comments and seeing everyone's work here, too.

Here's my question: I plan on making the here and there braid scarf with some hand-dyed alpaca. It is a multicolored yarn. The yarn instructions suggest to alternate skeins every 2 to 4 rows to prevent color pooling (did I use that term correctly?).

I really don't want to do that because then I would be faced with all those loose ends but wonder how it will turn out. Any thoughts? suggestions? experiences?

Thanks much!

Susan H.

Yarn Question for the Ene Shawl

I know, boring entry with no pictures, but I'm having problems picking a yarn for the Ene shawl. I have some of Knitpicks shimmer, and I also have enough Misti Alpaca Lace weight to make it. I am a pretty loose knitter, so I always have to go down one size or two.Started the swatch in sz4 needles with the Misti Alpaca, but I'm not liking how "loopy" it is (yeah, I know it's lace, but stockinette should still be pretty tight to me:)) Does anybody have any suggestions, or experience in knitting this with either one of those yarns? Should I just double strand it and use sz 6 needles or..? Any help and or suggestions would be appriciated..

All the projects I've seen so far are LOVELY! The ENE shawl is so daunting, but so many of you have made it, so it must be doable!!

Greetings - Backyard Leaves and More!

Hello! I'm a new member of this knitalong, although I've had the book Scarf Style for a while and have knit one scarf already. I made the Backyard Leaves Scarf at the beginning of the year, but have yet to block it (I live in Texas, so I don't really urgently need a wool scarf to wear). I did it in Karabella Aurora 8 but used a darker green. Here is how it looks now:

I really like it, but I found like many others did that it needs to be blocked to flatten it a bit and show the pattern. I've been lazy about getting it done, but plan to try and steam block it in the near future.

The next project I'm going to do is Midwest Moonlight, in Debbie Bliss Cathay - I really like the blend of cotton and silk. It has a nice sheen, and I think it would make a nice, cool scarf to wear in Texas. It is going to be a X-mas gift for my (future) Sis-in-law. I can't wait to start!

Shetland Triangle. Finished!

This was my first attempt at knitting a lace shawl, and I am more than pleased with the results! I really love this pattern.

Here it is blocking. [Glasses included for scale.]

Backyard Leaves

Yarn: Aurora 8 by Karabella Col:276 - a muted light green.

I loved knitting this scarf so much the first time around, that I just had to do it again.

This time I opted for a shorter scarf using only 2 balls of Aurora 8 (14 pattern repeats and 41" in length) - perfect for winter in Sydney!

My first Braided Mischief

This braided mischief is special because I just learned how to cable-knit. I wanted to work on the reversable cable scarf, but it never turned out. Instead I decided to try this, which was much easier to follow. It almost knits itself. I am using size 10 needles and Wool of the Andes by KnitPicks. . I will post again when it's all done. I am not crazy about the color, so I may need to start a new one. :)

Chevron Scarf Problem !!!

I made two of these scarves last winter ... But now a knitting friend has emailed me about a problem she is having.. I remember having the same problem when I was doing it.. But I forget How it was solved..
here we go again!!!
If you cast on 39 stitches..
Knit 1 Row...
ROW 1- knit1,slip,slip,knit*knit 9, slip 2 sts individually purlwise, knit1, purl 2 sts and pass slipped st over; repeat from * to last 12 sts, knit 9, knit2 together, knit 1

Problem begins... That already has more than 39 stitches in the directions.... ( count them )...... AND.. where it tells you to "pass slipped" stitch over ???
( Pass WHAT stitch over????)
Whats wrong here????? Help....

My finished Ene

Well it only took me five months, but here it is. I used Blackberry Ridge 100% wool in a lovely denim color. It measures out to the same size as in the book. I wish it was a little bigger but I'm happy with her. I have more pictures and a funny little story over on my blog if you care to check it out, Knithole.

The Petals Collection Knitalong

The Petals Collection Knitalong
I, too, looked for a KAL as soon as I got my yarn last week. I'm so glad one was established.
As I was winding this yarn I was thinking how much the colors reminded me of my 14-year old daughter - so it was decided she will be the receipent of the Calla Lily socks. Unfortunately she dislikes grafted toes so I will be making toe-up ankle socks for her with this yarn. I would like to try Sundara's pattern but I want to make socks my daughter will actually wear (14-year olds are picky) so plain ankle socls it will be.
I'll be using Wendy's toe-upsock pattern but a few rounds after the heel is turned I'll do about an inch of ribbing and then bind-off. Maybe I'll have enough yarn left over for some small baby booties.
On a different subject: could someone e-mail me how to post a photo to this KAL with Blogger? I don't see any instructions on how to do that.
Thanks, Sue

Shetland Triangle

Not being a poncho/ cape kind of girl, I had no intention of buying Wrap Style.
That was until I saw this Shetland Triangle shawl on this knitalong!

So, here's my finished version in three balls of Lang Yarns Venezia bought while on holiday. Although I've done it to the size in the diagram in the book, I would like it a bit bigger, but yarn constraints dictated the finished dimensions.

It wasn't at all difficult.
If you want to see the full story, it's over on my blog .

Thanks for inspiring me to do this one!

Here and There Cables-Warm

Yes, warm in color AND warm in weight! I have finished this, but this is the best picture I have of it in detail. Only having to pay attention to every 7th row was a big plus and it shocked me with it's complexity of appearance. Hand dyed alpaca from Blue Moon. Posted by Picasa

Interlocking Balloons in Pink

I just joined this blog, so I'm uploading everything I've done from these two books so far. This particular scarf was knit from a really expensive alpaca that was a bit of a "accident" purchase. I wasn't aware of the skein price until it was too late to un-love it.
Haven't worn it yet because of the weather, but looking forward to it's increadible softness. Posted by Picasa

Wandering Aran Fields in Teal

I knit this out of Cascade Lana D'oro, not realizing it was discountinued. Of course I was short on yarn, but as the capelet neared completion, I scored a couple of skeins on Ebay in just the right colorway. I loved working on this and know I'll be wearing it for years to come. Posted by Picasa
