Lady Eleanor at 4

Hi everyone! This is my first post to the knitalong, though I've been lurking for months drooling over all your finished projects from this nifty book. My first project is Lady Eleanor in Noro Silk Garden in #82. These photos were taken in the middle of the fourth ball (click for larger view):

This pattern is WONDERFUL. It's a perfect showcase for a yarn with the texture and color changes of Silk Garden (and especially for the spendy La Lana Forever Random Blend called for). I'm in love with this Lady already.

Backyard Leaves

An only slightly-late Christmas present -- Backyard Leaves, done in a wonderfully soft Filatura di Amigo cashmere/silk blend.

I could never let my mind wander while knitting this, as I would almost always lose my place, but in the end it was worth it!

Rolling on Ruffles

I am progressing slowly on Guinevere...too many projects at once. Meanwhile, my teen daughter is knitting ruffles. She knitted one ball of Noro in one day.

Lots of Scarf News

You'll have to excuse me for posting about 3 scarves all at once. I was waiting for a brighter day to take the photos and by the time I got one, I had 3 scarves to post about. I still really want to get started on a project from Wrap Style, but right now the yarn I have in my stash lends itself to Scarf Style projects. And to think, Wrap Style is the book I own and I keep having to renew Scarf Style from the library!

First, I finished Ruffles. This scarf was a great knit for me as a relatively new knitter. The pattern was easy to memorize and I learned how to do short rows. I will admit I was pretty bored with it about halfway through. The yarn is Cascade 220 and I knit on size 8 needles.

Then I started Misty Garden. The night I cast on, I tried to use size 6 needles and I just couldn't keep the yarn loose enough to do the K2TOG's. After struggling for 5 rows I frogged it. The next night I cast on using size 8 needles and exaggerated my stitches even more. Success was achieved and the scarf is half done. Again, the pattern was easy to memorize, but the challenge was in keeping track of which row I was on. I know it shouldn't have been difficult, but at one point I got turned around and reversed the scarf. I had to frog 12 rows that time. The yarn is Jaeger Mohair Art in inkwell, a dark purple.

Finally, I started Vintage Velvet. The first two inches I was very concerned that I was doing something wrong (never having knit a cable before), but now I've finished two pattern repeats and it's looking good. This yarn sure is a pleasure to knit with. My only concern is that everyone who touches it will want one and the yarn is way too expensive for me to use very often. I'm using emerald green Touch Me on size 8 needles.

The yarn is Karabella Aurora 4 color #8 and the needle size is 5. What a great pattern!

Misty Garden....done!

Hey guys....haven't posted in quite some time, but just wanted to pop in and see whats going on....and take a second to post a picture from my latest scarf style conquering!

I knitted up Misty Garden in Noro (my fave!) Auroura....it took forever, but I really love the end results. It has the charm of color changing Noro...but the glam of glitter specks...love it.

Ene Progress

I have made some progress on my Ene.

Here's a picture of it so far. It seems to be getting quicker - I guess it should, since the rowns get shorter as you progress.



I am using Misti Alpaca lace weight in a gorgeous chocolate brown.

Linen Backyard Leaves finished

Now my Backyard Leaves is finished. It has been a byproject I've just worked on in between everything else, so it has taken quite some time. The pattern was really fun to knit, quite challenging which is good. The yarn is two skeins Rowan Linen Drape, which made a scarf of about 130cm (52 inches).

Ene is blocked

Well, Ene is blocked...and did she ever grow! Fresh off the needles,unblocked she was 29" from the top to the point and 46" across the top edge. After blocking she is 39" from the top to the point and 75" across the top edge! I love the size.

Backyard Leaves scarf now has Hat to match :-)

I have been knitting hats & fingerless gloves to match my scarves this fall/winter knitting season and I thought that I would give it a go with Backyard Leaves, too. I finished the hat tonight. I used smaller needles (size 6) & KnitPicks' WOTA that I used for the scarf & just knit part of 1/2 and sewed the 'end leaves' on the St st portion of the hat. I have some photos of the results; photo of hat with leaves on the St st portion of the hat, one with the rest of the hat & with hat & scarf.

Ruffles from New Member

Hi! I am new to this KAL, and have just finished an inexact Ruffles replica as a Christmas Gift. I did it with Classic Elite Lush, three skeins. It's shorter than the pattern, but just as cute. It was a lot of fun to knit, and I love the Lush knit up; very soft and snuggly stuff. I used it to teach myself to 'knit backwards' to eliminate turning my needles every row. Very functional skill to have, and not as hard to learn as I expected.

Can't wait to start another project from this book, which I really enjoy. My daughter has asked for Falling Leaves which I swatched but got distracted by holiday knitting, shopping, and cooking. She saw it on a customer at our LYS (Webs) and thinks she needs it. The book is marvelously diverse. Something for everyone!!

Lady Eleanor

First post ever here - I've been a lurker until now. Here is my Lady Eleanor, sans fringe. It is about 10 balls of Silk Garden #203, done with 6mm needles. I loved making this, and am sending it off to my mother for Christmas. A very satisfying project.

Vintage Velvet!

This scarf was so fun once I got a chart from a friend of mine!! Before I couldn't keep track of where I was in the pattern.

I used the color recommended in the pattern for my soon-to-be SIL cause she's a neutral color kind of woman.

It was so fast and easy once I got going and figured out the pattern! The lighting here is a little wonky but the actual scarf is pretty close to the true color.

I'm working on Ene's Shawl, but I'm in the middle of frogging and starting over for the second time.... wish me luck!

Here is Ene, off the needles

I haven't blocked it yet. This took me about a month to do. I cast on in the middle of November, I think and I was also working on my KR gift elf present and Samus.

I used Jaeger Matchmaker 4 ply merino. I ended up using 3.5 balls. I am not sure how big it turned out...I plan to measure then block and remeasure and will let you all know the end results. This was my first lace project and while I had a few false starts, I enjoyed and recommend it to anyone up to their first lace challenge.

Blocking Ene?

I am closing in on the final chart for Ene and have been thinking about blocking. What is the best way to block Ene? SHould I pin it out and lay a damp towel over it or should I dunk it in the tub, squeeze out the excess and then pin it out to dry?

I think I want to be fairly agressive with the blocking. It is looking a little small right now...

Backyard Leaves Complete :0)

I have completed both halves of Backyard Leaves & they have just about finished the blocking process & I am then left to seem them together. I'm afraid that I had to block it twice because the 1st blocking I stretched it too much & it just seamed to eliminate all of the 3D definition in the design. So I sprayed again & repositioned the scarf so that you can still see the st. defintion with a 3D look...I said it before, I say it again..Annie Modesitt is a genius! I am quite happy with the results, if I may say so myself! Last night I cast on using smaller size needles for the hat & will (LOL, as I usually do) make it up as I go along as I make the hat, then fingerless gloves and a small clutch to match. I'm very happy that I found that I had so much yarn..YIPPEE!
Almost forgot, the pictures are of the 2 halves blocking with a couple of photos of the detail.

misty garden

I have started Misty Garden, not so much because it was a favorite in the book(quite to the contrary-not really my style) but because I happened to have a great yarn for it and b/c I know my mother will LOVE it...and it is something I can knit while watching TV/when my 16mo DS is playing happily by himeself but can interrupt me at any second! I am using TouchYarns mohair, a NZ company product I discovered at the Alexandra Palace Knitting and Stitching Show this year....I really like it, and I don't usually like mohair!

Progress on Ene's Scarf

This is Ene's Scarf after 2 repeats of chart 3. 3 more repeats of chart 3 then on to the last chart. It is going much faster now, I am down to 217 stitches from the beginning 375. I am really enjoying the challenge of this project and am glad I started it again.

Hi from the Netherlands

Hi everybody!
I'm a Dutch knitter who has been reading this blog for ages and I adore all of your beautiful creations! But as I've finally received the Scarf Style book last week I thought it fit to join in the fun. I've a clapotis on the needles, but when it is finished I'd love to start a scarf from the book. But boy, it is so hard to choose! I'm thinking it will be Midwest Moonlight first, or Ruffles, or Interlocking Balloons, or... And I'm in love with Lady Eleanor too! So I guess there's but one thing to do: start them all at the same time. But where's the money to come from to buy all this wool, sigh... Well, I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Backyard Leaves WIP

I have been working on Backyard Leaves for 4 days now and am GREATLY enjoying this knitting experience :)!! Annie Modesitt is a genius! I have ideas for a hat & fingerless gloves & did some sketches for a clutch last night if I have enough yarn left...a very cute ensemble! Sorry I wasn't able to load pics on my 1st post, but I had just gotten a new camera and have just gotten around to installing and learning about the new software. I have photos from day 1 thru my progress today, I am now on the 2nd half.
I so enjoy reading about and looking at everyone's projects...such imagination and talent!!

Almost finished...

With Ann Budd's top-down capelet cardigan! This is the cute arrowhead lace cardigan from Wrap Style, and I used Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride, in a color called "Spice". It is turning out so well, the mohair gives it a fuzzy sheen, and it is so cozy- perfect for Christmas! I just need to pick up stitches to knit the collar, and then I'm finished. I am not using buttons, instead I will get one of those Norweigian clasps, to give it a fairytale look. I will post pictures when I finish!

Ene's scarf took forever to cast on!

Hi everyone. I just joined the Kal. I am knitting Ene's scarf and the 375 stitches took forever to cast on! I am enjoying it, though it is slow going. Pictures soon...

My First Scarf - Ruffles

Yes, it's another Ruffles scarf. I have only been knitting for a couple of months and I was looking for a real project to use my 'learn-to-knit' yarn for. The Ruffles scarf seemed perfect for these 2 skeins of Cascade 220. I've been very happy with this pattern between learning two new stitches and seeing how short row shaping works. Plus, it's an easy project to carry around with me.

I'm looking forward to doing the Touch Me scarf and Lady Eleanor as my next projects from Scarf Style. I still don't know what I'll do first from Wrap Style.
