Here we are, 16 days into 2009. We received very few scarves during the holiday season. Though we did get a nice shipment from one person who sent some nice crocheted scarves, but before I get you totally confused, these were not one of our stitchers. I think one or two of our stitches sent scarves.

I'm nearly done with the Mini-Mochi scarf. By the way, the yarn is now available through Yarn Market and Jimmy Beans Wool One site was a few cents cheaper, but I didn't check shipping costs on either. This yarn is so very soft. The pattern is easy;
using two balls of yarn, pull from the outside of one and the inside of the other. I used a cable cast on and cast on 46 stitches. Slip the first stitch purlwise, then purl 1, knit one across. Complete two rows with the first ball of yarn then use the second ball for the next two rows. When you switch colors, allow the color you're dropping to lay to the left, pull up the yarn you're picking up slip the first stitch then using the new yarn purl the second stitch. This is a picture when it was less than half done, but the colors just contine to make an amazing scarf. It's currently about 4' long, and I think I have enough yarn to do another 6 inches or so.

Here and There Cables!

Hi All - here's my version on Here and There Cables in Tatamy Tweed Worsted (40% Cotton, 60% Acrylic), Oatmeal. I removed 1 repeat to make it a bit skinnier, but otherwise, used the pattern as written. It's a very easy pattern to memorize. It's thick and cushy. I made it for a very good friend for her Birthday!

I've owned Scarf Style for a long time and I've been reading this blog for over a year now. I've admired the beautiful scarves I've seen here and finally got around to making the Vintage Velvet scarf for myself.I found the Muench Touch Me at a LYS going out of business sale and couldn't resist particularly since the color is one of my favorites. Although I was really nervous about washing this scarf in hot water I couldn't be happier with the result.

Now for the Misty Garden I've been thinking about for a year plus.

Ene Almost Done

STILL working on Ene. From Scarf Style: Innovative to Traditional, 31 Inspirational Styles to Knit and Crochet . Great patterns all around in that book.

I'm through the second pass on Chart 3. Fortunately, this shawl gets smaller as she goes. The color in this picture is pretty true to the yarn color. It's a gift for Helen. I'm a little late on it. Though I do try to get thru at least two rows a night....most nights I make it.

I am finally enjoying knitting Ene. I was having a hard time with the center stitch, but finally got a handle on how it works on the row.

I hope to have this done in the next few weeks and blocked. I'll post pics here and on Ravelry when done.

Lady Eleanor is finally finished, I started mid July, then let her rest for the most part of the fall but now she's done. And I love her! I used Noro Kureyon and 4.5 mm needles.
This wrap was the reason i bought "Scarf style" and I have not regretted it. Also there are so many other lovely projects in the book.

Ruffle Scarf

Finally!! I have finally completed a project in the book. I am too excited.

My 14 year old daughter wanted the Ruffle Scarf and I made it for her. This was a very quick knit for me and I love the softness of the RYC Cashsoft DK.

Here is a picture of the scarf and I also made the Knitting Daily Cecily Beanie to go with the scarf.

Midwest Moonlight

I have had Scarf Style for about a year and believe it or not, this is the first scarf I made from this lovely book. After I was about 40% of the way done, my husband expressed interest in this scarf so I accelerated its place in my queue--concentrating on it instead of making it third in line meant it got finished MUCH faster, although it still took quite awhile to finish.
He wanted the scarf to be wide and long, so I blocked it as much as I could, gaining about 4 inches in width (it's now about 13 inches wide) and about 10 inches in length, to 70 inches. The blocking gave it a pretty, more open look too. I'm quite pleased with the result and hope he is too!

Hi there,
I finally remembered to upload the pic of my version of Misty Garden. Instead of a mohair yarn, I've used Lana Grossa Mega Stoppino, which is a chunky type and multicolour. I will knit this pattern again, but next time I shall choose a lighter yarn.

This one, knitted with 3 skeins of Noro Cash Island, was a big success with my little sister :) I loved it too, knitting has been so much fun that I bought more Cash Island to make one for me.

Here's my version of Backyard Leaves from Scraf Style. I used Araucunia Nature Wool in a lovely green. I blocked it lightly with a wet towel and an iron to flaten it a bit. So far it's been too warn for wool scrafs but I think it will warm me nicely when the temperature drops.

Yeah! I finished the shrug. This is from Scarfstyle. I made it from Alpacas with a Twist Landscapes yarn. It is silk and baby alpaca, so it is very soft. As you can probably tell my daughter likes it!I did make some modifications to the pattern. First of all since I knew that the pattern length for the arms would be too long, I knit the neck first and then picked up stitches from the neck and knit the sleeves in the opposite order. That way I could better control how long they got and it would give me the option of adding length later as her arms get longer. When I got to the end of the sleeves I also thought the regular sleeves were a little boring so I increased one stitch in each section of ribbing to give the bottom of the sleeves a little flare. She says that is her favorite part! I loved this knit although the repetitiveness of it made it go on the back burner a couple of times. I definitely would recommend it to other knitters and plan to make another soon!

Ok it took me 2 years but I finally completed this thing. The short rows drove me crazy and it was hard to see progress. But overall, it was an easy knit. I originally went to Yarniverse in Memphis to buy some Classic Elite Premiere, which they didn't carry, and the owner recommended Garnstudio Angora Tweed as a replacement. A nice yarn, but far too bulky for this scarf once I finished it. It will still be a great scarf come winter (if the record breaking 100 degree heat for 2 straight weeks ever goes away!)

When I read the many blogs extolling how easy and quick the Shetland Triangle was, I didn't believe it - but here's mine, 7 days start-to-finish knitting, including 2 additional repeats! It's a crappy pic, but the specs are more important anyway:

RYC Cashcotton 4-ply/197 yds, just under 2 skeins; size 6 circulars; again, a 7 day knit; cold water immersion blocked with wires and pinning, an extra two full days. I bought a sweater/lace blocking wire set by Fiber Fantasy (ech, I ended up pinning it for two days, so there ya go - maybe I need more practice). This will definitely be a go-to pattern for holiday gift giving - in fact, this was a gift and the recipient absolutely loved it! The yarn is wonderful to knit with - it's mostly cotton so it doesn't like to be stretched a lot but it holds blocking well, and the added angora and cashmere give it a nice touch and subtle sheen.

The second FO I completed almost a year ago, but this is a great pattern that's never been posted here and I encourage all of you who have Wrap Style to check out the Shoulder cozy:

I've actually made 2 of these; the first one was a gift to someone who didn't bother to send a thank you (we know the type, don't we?) after I agonized for months over the yarn, color, and button - I'll admit that the knit itself only took 12 days including blocking. It's a beautiful mini-cape and I was irked by the non-response to say the least, so I made one for myself (that'll teach her!) in 9 days. The specs: Knitpicks Sierra/110 yds, a little less than 4 skeins; size 11 circulars; an 8-day knit and 1 day blocking; big ol' thrift store button, about fiddy cents. This is so stylish and quick, and it really does keep the shoulders cozy. It truly makes a great gift - especially the one you give yourself!

A while ago I finished Lady E! I used around eight skeins in Noro Silk Garden.

Husbands 'Missoni' scarf was finished this weekend. Huh. there where truly many ends to weave in but it was all worth it! He really loves it!

Also my brown Ene is recently done. And what a fantastic and unusual pattern it is! Starting with almost four hundred stitches the beginning was pretty tenacious. But otherwise I found Ene a simple knit and wow how the finishing blocking really made wonders with the shawl.

I'm so sorry, lovely knitters - I had posted about the GSW in my hand-spun, hand-dyed Wensleydale, and was waiting for more roving since I'd run out - and there is no shipment in sight, according to Halcyon Yarn. So I've frogged it, and will be knitting something else, out of another book. I hope to post again soon, with another Scarf Style/Wrap Style garment.

Hi all! Here is my finished scarf in Malabrigo kettle dyed yarn in color Sealing Wax. I don't know how the color appears on your monitor, but it is a warm, oxblood color in person. I did the scarf in 3 pattern repeats instead of 4 because it is for a man and because the yarn knits up very thick cables. The scarf is about 6 feet long. I think it is very comfortable!

I don't know if it was the pattern or the incredibly soft yarn that made this scarf such a joy to knit. I'm considering making another one, this time for me!

My Tweedy Triangle

I just finished blocking this last night. I'm sure most of you know this item, here are the stats:

The Shetland Triangle by Evelyn A. Clark from Wrap Style

Yarn: Rowan Felted Tweed in Dragon #147 (a little over two balls of yarn)

Needles: Knit Picks Options circular US 7- 36"

Modifications: I followed the pattern exactly, only adding a repeat and leaving out the last few rows that would result in the pointy ends (not a fan of the dramatic points).

I love how this turned out, I can say that this will be a favorite for years to come. I love the tweed, it's a nice grey/green with some flecks of white and blue in it. I'm hooked on tweed, makes me want to wrap it around my neck and hop a flight to Dublin. It turned out much more delicate than I thought it would, very light weight. I gave it a really tight blocking, something I didn't do with the Shetland Triangle I made out of the aran weight silk/merino yarn I used previously. I may reblock it again.

About the Knit Picks Options needles, they have changed knitting for me, hands down. I want to buy the whole set and the DPN's. (Hint hint, June birthday coming up, you know who you are) The finish IS like glass and the cord is so soft, it wasn't at all twisted or looped. You can use the needles as either circular or straight with the attachments that come with the cables. Now what to do with all my bamboo needles.

"Mini" Lady Eleanor

Hello All! Here is a progress picture of my "Mini" Lady Eleanor Stole. I don't have enough of this yarn, Patons SWS, to make the full size version so I casted on 24 vs 56 sts for a scarf size version. It's looking like it will be about 10in wide. That's a little wider than I prefer but, I will keep going since this is good practice and I want to make the full size stole with Silk Garden as soon as my wallet permits. I do have 3 skeins of Silk Garden #205 in my stash...I think I may try using it and cast on 16 sts. It should be around 6 - 7 in, judging by the width of this one and 3 skeins should be enough for a scarf this way.

I picked up Lace Style a couple of weeks ago. There was quite a search for it. None of my usual LYS shops had it yet. I have been in sock mode for a while, so will probably make the Floral Lace Anklets my first project. I also plan on doing the Lily of the Valley Shawl and the Essential Tank Top. Other patterns call to me as well, but these are the three I want to make first.

It occurred to me this afternoon - while I am trying to procrastinate on the three graduate projects I have due next week - that there was some "if you post your pics, I'll post mine" action in the comments a while back.

So, here's my pic of the Color on Color scarf!

Like I said before, I've been working on it forever - not steadily, though. I did all the regular parts in two days, and have spent the rest of the last several months working on the first fair isle section that is on the right in the photo. I can only do a row or two at a time; all the stranding is tedious. Despite what I might normally call garish color combinations, I really like this scarf. It may just end up as a wall decoration in my office, rather than an item of clothing.

I finished the Shetland Triangle a couple of weeks ago. I'm not a shawl girl, but I really loved knitting it up, in fact I've already started another. The yarn is Sundara's Silky Merino Aran (I don't know what it is about this yarn that I can't get a good picture of it, it must be the silk in it), I like the yarn a lot, except for the fact that I have yet to wear the shawl and it is already getting fuzzy. I did one extra repeat and had to order one more skein after I ran out, which makes the shawl a two and a quarter skein project. I only had about seven rows left to knit up when I ran out. Bummer.

At the moment I'm knitting the second Shetland Triangle in Rowan Felted Tweed, it's looking like a great yarn, I'm really happy with how tweedy it is. My only concern is that there may be a lack of stitch definition, I'll knit a few repeats and check it out.

Wandering Aran Fields - finished!

Thank you all so much for your help when I first started this project. It's finally done, and was shipped out today and will hopefully arrive just in time for Grandma's birthday. Other than the time pressures, this was quite an enjoyable knit. I love cables, and it was just short enough to get through without getting bored.

Right now I'm thinking I bought way too much yarn for this project. The pattern called for about 550 yards of yarn. I bought 3 balls of Knitpicks gloss, each with 220 yards of yarn. I'm 65 rows into the body pattern and I'm still on my first ball-o-yarn. The pattern calls for 80 rows of the body pattern, and I'm almost certain I'll still be on my first ball then. Oh well, better too much yarn than too little, right?

Color on Color scarf!

I don't have any pictures, but wanted to give an update: I'm working on the final i-cords. I'm so close to the end I can taste it (I started in June of last year and had to take a lot of time off due to wrist pain).

When I first started on these i-cords, I really didn't want to do them. A friend suggested I just use a crochet hook and chain stitch cords, but they looked too flimsy for this massive scarf. So I cried, cursed, took a week off, then started on i-cords. They do look much better.

Once I finish those, I plan to wash, block and then line it with something as the back side looks terrible with all those woven in ends. If anyone has any suggestions for lining material, I'd love to hear it.

Once it is done, I plan to wear it for a day, just to give it a proper send off. Then I'll post pictures.

Beginning of a Shetland Triangle

I cast on for this shawl a few days ago, and I love how it is knitting up! I was a little nervous about this project at first, as it is my first lace project, but it's turning out to be much easier than I thought it would be. I had a little bit of trouble when casting on and knitting the first 10 or so rows, but now that the pattern is established things are going much smoother.

A peek at my Shetland Triangle WIP

I'm using Sundara Silky Merino Aran yarn and it's a very pretty color (Thank you Brooklyntweed!). I do have a big problem with the consistency of the yarn though, it's flecked with white spots of fiber missing dye. I guess I can say it's on purpose. The yarn is so silky though, like buttah!

I did an extra repeat, nine in all, and I only have eight rows left to finish it and I RAN OUT OF YARN! Shoulda' known. Jeez. So I'm waiting for Sundara to dye me up another hank so I can finish it. It's torture, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this pattern and the yarn is perfect for it. It only took me five days to get so close to finishing it after figuring out the crochet cast-on and the over all structure of the shawl. I brought it to my wonderful LYS to ask how I was progressing, and he said that I was doing so well and that I didn't need to ask him for help anymore if I was knitting this up (I had no idea).

I'm going to start up an other one, I have plans for two more. One in Rowan Felted Tweed color #147, a really pretty green, I'm going to try a swatch of it, who knows, I may not like it. And then another one in the Silky Merino Aran, I may buy the yarn undyed this time and dye it myself.

So until the yarn gets here I'll jut enjoy the raspberry bumps of my unfinished Shetland Triangle. I hope you don't mind the long post, I'm just so excited about this scarf.

Childs Turtleneck Shrug

This is my niece, it was her birthday present, she turned 5 in February. I altered the pattern to fit her with the help of much more experienced knitters. I used Knit Picks Swish in Bubble Gum Pink to knit the shrug and the beret. I think she looks adorable and she really liked them both. She said that she looked like an artist! on another note, I am half way done with my Lady Eleanor, I am pushing to get it completed by Easter so I can take it on my trip to Las Vegas.

Can someone help explain Wandering Aran Fields to me?

Ok, I understand the main body piece. I'm ok with knitting the edges for the buttons and button holes and then connecting that onto the main body along the collar. But when are the button bands ever attached down the front of the body? It seems as though they are only connected along the neck in the directions.

Lady Eleanor is finished, and I am in love! This is destined to become one of my favorite shawls. It was a pleasure to knit. The pattern is much more well written than other entrelac patterns I have seen, and I was in heaven, using all of my favorite colors.

Newest Member of the Divine Lady Eleanor Ya-Ya Sisterhood!

I finished the knotted fringe Friday night; my Lady E took about 9-1/2 weeks from start to finish. I have to say, the completion of this project makes me feel like a True Knitter, not just someone who knits - and my beau no longer questions me lugging around my ever-present bright-red knitting bag.

Quick specs: 12 balls of Noro Silk Garden #86, size 10 needles (I have about 32 inches of yarn left after cutting a few extra fringes to use it up). I knit considerably more rows than the pattern called for to get to about 64-65" length, which after immersion cold-water blocking (NSG blocks wonderfully, by the way) relaxed to 72" inches. I also added an extra rectangle, so instead of casting on 56 stitches or seven 8-stitch blocks, I had eight 8-stitch blocks (I hate shawls that don't cover my bottom :). Also, I increased the fringe strip count to 60 to correspond to the extra rectangle.

It's pretty much already summer in SoCal right now (it was 80 degrees when I took the pic this morning), so I only have a few more evenings to wear it. Next up: Ene's Shawl!!!

This was a great fast knit! The construction is really clever and easy. I knit it in the Rowan Kid Classic called for in the pattern. The shrug is really warm and comfortable. The only adaptation I made was starting at the wrists with smaller needles and working my way up two sizes as I reached the upper arm, so the sleeves would not be too tight.

A couple of pictures of my finished Lady Eleanor.

It took me 10 skeins of Noro Silk Garden in Color #37 on size 8 needles. The only modifications I made to the pattern were to knit a few more tiers of the pattern to compensate for my tighter gague, and to shorten the knotted fringe. I loved knitting this and loved the way it turned out, and if I could afford more yarn now, I'd knit another.

Tzarina Wrap Spotting

Last nite I went to Vickie Howell's booksigning in Denver, CO at the Lamb Shoppe (see more on my blog) and ran into this Tzarina wrap. I told her about our blog and asked if she minded I put her pic up with all the details. So, here goes:

Vintage Velvet, Finis

However many months, seven skeins, and 515 rows later, FINALLY, finally I finished the vintage velvet. There are some spots where the worming is pretty bad, but at least they look like tiny little lumps. I may try washing it again in hot, or even boiling, water. But the touch, my friends, the feel of that oh-so-soft chenille, that longs to be worn against the skin.

This picture was taken before washing. It looks quite nice as is, and I share everyone's fear of what the washing will do to it.

This was taken after the washing process. Yes, it looks like a drowned rat, and yes, I thought I'd ruined it. I could barely bring myself to take the pictures, and quickly threw it into the dryer.

These were taken after it came out of the dryer - not completely dry - and the results were astonishing. The beauty, the drape, the hand, I can't stop raving. And it felted enough that my few, um, minor, mistakes aren't really visible. Wow. Wow. I do wish I had waited until I had more experience under my belt before attempting this scarf - the yarn deserved better. But I can't regret it, too much, this is just amazing! I'll try for better pictures in the morning, I can't get quite enough light.

This is MY Lady E in Southwest Trading Company "Karaoke", 10 skeins, sz 8 needle. I *love* this yarn, very soft texture, and gradually blended color changes. I have always preferred subtle colors, so when I saw this yarn, I knew it was the one for me.
I wetblocked and ironed it, for maximum softness and drape.

Another Lady Eleonore

Hello everybody, I promised to show you my version of Lady Eleonore - here it is.

I used the yarn "Scala" from Junghans-Wolle, a blend of mohair and artificial fibres which is an unexpensive alternative to the Noro-Versions. The shawl is very light (650 gramms) and cosy. It measures about 1,90 m long and 55 cm wide (without tassels). My finishing is a little bit different to the pattern because I didn't want an even border with thin fringes - I wanted rectangles from the right beginning and up to the end and tassels. Here are some details:

It was a real pleasure to knit this pattern. I was addicted to knit one more rectangle, just one more, another one ...

But one thing made me a little bit nervous and that was the permanent turning when I had reached about 50 cm of the shawl-length. So I tried to knit back and forth from the right side of the shawl and it worked! That was great and made the knitting really comfortable.

Um, Wensleydale IS dense, isn't it?

This is my second post on the GSW I'm knitting with Wensleydale. Yeah, they weren't a-kidding in the Halcyon catalog when they said it made a dense yarn....I already divided up the skeins for each triangle, and ran out on the first after the five skeins set aside, so I know I won't have enough for any of them. I've ordered another pound of the roving, and may need more; this will be the heaviest cloak in the world, but it'll be glorious. I'll just dye the remaining yarn purple and it'll go fine; meanwhile, I can knit each of the triangles as far as my current yarn will go, and spin and dye the roving when I get it. Thank God for my KnitPicks Options set!

Ene - to gauge or not to gauge

Hello fellow knitters,

I am trying to knit a guage for Ene's, but the swatch looks loose and wabbly. I guess my question is do it suppose to look like this because it is lace weight or am I knitting too lose? This is my first lace project and I have never worked with yarn this thin. I am using Knitpicks Alpacloud Tide Pool heather.

So, is a guage necessary for lace knitting? All comments welcomed. Thanks

Calling all soapboxes!

I need people to hold out for their favorite color - I am starting the Here and There Cables, which I just love, but I cannot for the life of me choose which color I want to continue the scarf in. Both colors match my coat well. The first is Reynolds Odyssey 404, lavender/sage, and the second is 408, the green mix featured in the book. (Sidetrack - it really bugs me how the photos in the book are so out of focus! I know it's artistic, but it isn't very helpful.)

I'd love to hear your thoughts, if you have any; I'm so bad at decisions like this! I love the brightness of the green, it really is a much more striking color; but I love the subtlety of the lavender so much...it's too bad it doesn't pop in the same way. So close and yet so far. I have one row of chart 3 left, then all of chart 4. I had high hopes of finishing this weekend.

If anyone has any leftovers of Blackberry Ridge lace weight in cream, I'd be happy to take it off your hands in exchange for chocolate or something. I don't need much. I'd rather not have to buy a full skein if I need so little!

quick Backyard Leaves/blocking question

hey, yet another new member here(and maybe it's getting old, but thanks, Tipper ;D)...I'm almost finished with my first scarf from Scarf Style, Backyard Leaves(there is a pic of the first half in my blog, fyi) and I'm planning on blocking it, but currently I'm away at school and don't have all of the blocking resources I could use, so I'm waiting until I get home to block it, which will be later in March. still, I'd like to wear it/show it off a little bit now, even if in its puffy glory. the instructions say to block the item before sewing together, but I'm wondering if it's really that horrible to sew it together and block later(aside from the fact that it would be a lot longer). I'm a new knitter so I'm not so sure, so I thought it would be a good idea to ask. help me out and you'll have some leafy pics to look at in the near future ;) thanks

First, a hello, and a thank you to Tipper for sending me the invitation!

Now, the business - I am very close to the end of Ene....and I am running out of yarn! I am about halfway through the last repeat of Chart 3, so I still I have half of that left and all of Chart 4, and this is what I am working with:

I am using the recommended Blackberry Ridge laceweight. (And do not know the dyelot - lesson learned...hopefully what I get will not be too drastically different.) I am baffled as to how this has happened. This is the first lace I have ever done - am I discovering that I am a loose lace knitter? Ususally my gauge is pretty spot-on, and I haven't wasted any of the yarn ripping out, etc.

I realize there's not much anyone can tell me that will really fix the problem. Maybe I just needed to share with people who would feel my pain :)

Hear Ye, Hear Ye - Calling all Lady Eleanors!

I'm nearing the end of my beautiful Lady E (size 10's Noro Silk Garden #86, just started the 10th ball, 54 inches long) and was wondering how you all decided on the length – did you go by the pattern instructions and stop after the 36th row, or did you knit closer to 70 inches, the blocking length? Like many of you, I used a different needle size; by using the 10's I got a smaller gauge that what the pattern specifies, but I like the look. When I finished the last row of the pattern as written, the stole was only 42 inches long so I kept going.

One more question – if you blocked, how did you do it?

Silk Garden Misty Garden

This is my third scarf from the book, a Misty Garden knit with three balls of Noro Silk Garden in colourway 74. (Check my albums at http://stashqueen.typepad.com for other projects.) My scarf looked short when knit, but lengthened nicely when blocked. This pattern looks impressive but is easy and quick to knit - no wonder it's so popular. I like it so much that I've already started another one with some lovely old Phildar yarn. (Blogger put the photo in the wrong place and won't let me change it, but you can figure out which is which!)

New Member with Turtleneck Shrug

Hello everybody, I'm new to the group and I'm very glad to be a part of such a great knitting community. Many thanks to Tipper for inviting me.

In november 2006 I knitted the Turtleneck Shrug which was my very favourite pattern out of the wonderful book Scarf Style. I used "Pashmina" from Lana Grossa in a warm shade of orange which was a pleasure to work with. In the front of the shrug I worked the decreases in every fourth row, in the back I didn't work any decreases because of my wide shoulders.

I like to wear this shrug in public. It is cosy and warm and: it is really a different garment.

Recently I finished Lady Eleonore, too. Pictures will follow in a few days.

502 Errors

You may have noticed that Blogger/Google returns 502 error pages when you try posting. (According to the status page, this should be fixed, but it's not.) I know that you've probably noticed because people are posting the same post two or three or more times. If you encounter such an error, do NOT repost. Wait a few minutes and refresh the knit-along blog to see if your post is there. Likely, it will be.

I appreciate your assistance! It will save me time deleting duplicate posts (and possibly needing to delete comments in doing so). I get a 502 error every time I try deleting one, so it's not a quick process.

Triangle One Begun

Hello, I'm new and this is my first post - thanks, Tipper!

I have just started my first triangle of four in Catherine Lowe's Garter-Stitch Wrap from Scarf Style, using my own handspun, hand-dyed Wensleydale yarn. I love how the designer begins each triangle with a cast-on in the center of the base, which leads to a balanced shape through-out, and is a real showcase for a variegated yarn!

The pictures above are of the yarn I'm using (three colorways, though not all are in the pic, teal, aqua, and purple, all with bits of the others), and the first triangle WIP. It looks a little like a bat, I think.

Can't wait to see what happens next!

I loved my lady........but she left me!

Sorry about the stinky picture. I finished up the lady Eleanor fringe I posted a few days ago last night. I kept the fringe a bit shorter than called for, I like it better. I wound her around my neck and immediately started itching, had a headache and my eyes turned red (it was very unpleasant). So I guess I'm sending her off to my stepmother for her birthday which is, coincidentally, this saturday. I guess it was meant to be, it's going to be so painful to part with, it was going to be my first finished project I kept.

Was it the mohair? Any suggestions of another yarn? I really loved the way the Noro Silk Garden #88 knit up and the colors.

Off Center Argyle: finished!

I recently completed "Off Center Argyle" from Wrap Style, it was very fun to knit and I hope to actually wear it; if only to walk the dogs or run to the store. The colors (and texture) didn't photograph as well as I'd hoped. The colors blend together in a much more subtle and harmonious way, in person.

I'm excited about Blogger's new post-labeling feature. It's one of those things that come in handy when you're looking for specific information in a blog, and now we have it at our fingertips.

You'll notice that when you compose a post that there's an option to add labels. If you click the "show all" button, you can see all of the active labels; simply click on the labels that you wish to apply to your post.

I am currently creating labels, as well as labeling old posts with the appropriate labels. Please do not create labels outside of those that are listed. In order to sort posts accurately, already-existing labels should be used. If you have suggestions for a label that does not exist yet, please email me.

I may not catch all of the posts that need to be labeled, as it is time-consuming to read the posts with non-specific titles. If you would like to add labels to your old posts, please do so! It will help others find information more quickly and enable them to see your work.

Turtleneck Shrug

This yarn is super soft, and the pattern was easy to knit. However, my turned out to be a mock neck rather than a turtleneck, as I ran out of yarn. It's ok. I still think it's cute, and definitely warm. And, I'm glad I finally finished it.

Wrapped in Tradition

I just joined (thanks, Tipper!) and I was wondering if anyone has knitted the Wrapped in Tradition poncho from Wrap Style. I plan on making it for my sister's wedding gift. I checked the archives and I didn't see where anyone had made this one yet. If anyone has, what have your experiences been with it? Any ideas for yarn substitutions? I am trying to avoid the mohair since it will be hard to rip back if I have too (and with these stitch patterns, I foresee having to a lot). Any suggestions would be appreciated!

It turned out so soft and I love the colors. It's Noro Silk Garden color #88, I finished the body at 9.5 balls of yarn, I just have to crochet and make the fringe.

It was so much fun to knit and I even learned how to knit backwards so I didn't have to turn my work almost at all 2/3 of the way through it. It moved MUCH faster that way. This was my first Entrelac project and the first knitted project I've ever kept for myself. I can't wait to wear it. I have the yarn ready for another Backyard Leaves, Misty Garden, and Shetland Triangle. I just can't get ahead of myself.

I'm wondering about the crocheting, is it necessary or is it just to give it a finished look with the knotted fringe? I haven't really been able to see any close ups online of the fringe with the crocheted edge.

Lady Eleanor Preview

Hi everyone! I have been working on Lady Eleanor for a few weeks now. Here

is a little preview. This is after three skeins of Noro Silk Garden in color #37. I had a little panic attack for a while because I knew the 8 skeins I bought wouldn't be enough, and after knitting this far I found out my color had been discontinued!! After calling around to 7 different stores, I found one that had a few skeins left, so I ran over and got the last two I needed. As of this morning, I am on my 6th skein. I'm hoping if I knit all weekend I might be able to finish by Valentines Day so I can wear it on my big date with my hubby. I'll let you know if I make it!

Misty Garden

My feeble attempts at Backyard Leaves notwithstanding (I will succeed, I will succeed), here is my version of Misty Garden still on the needles. The yarn is a beautiful Handpainted Mohair Wool DK Wt that I bought on eBay from vendor "phydaugh" of Endicott, NY in her "Evergreen Evening" colorway. The yarn is wonderfully soft and easy to work with. The color is much better in person than my picture shows.

I've been working on Ene since September. This is my first big lace project and it's going pretty well, after I started it over three times. I thought I knew how to read a lace chart, but eventually figured out that sometimes you read right to left and sometimes you read left to right! I don't get much time to work on it because I can't have any distractions while working on it. I love the way it's turning out, though, and am looking forward to finishing it someday!

Backyard Leaves Scarf

Yarn: Galway Irish Worsted Knitting Wool, 2 balls

While the scarf came out just fine, I think this wool was a bit too stiff (and a bit too scratchy for my liking). If knit again, I'd use merino wool as the pattern calls for.

Starting the scarf was tricky, but after the first repeat you'll be sailing.

I finished it by steam blocking it with a damp towel. You can see a comparison of the blocked and unblocked halves here.

I'm planning on doing Forbes Forest for my next Scarf Style project.

Campus Scarf Simplified

After trying several patterns, I finally settled on the Campus Scarf by Fiona Ellis as my choice for the Red Scarf Project. With such a fitting name, I should have gone for it immediately.

Let me say now, I love this pattern. Once you have the first pattern row set up and know from the first pattern repeat how many rows to knit before switching colours or reversing the knit/purl stitches, you never have to look at the pattern again. Seriously. I wanted to use just two colours, instead of the six the pattern calls for. I carried the contrast yarn up the back edge of the scarf and had no extra ends to darn in. I think the texture is interesting enough to make the simplified scarf equally beautiful. It turns out to be a cross between ribbing and basketweave, and hangs beautifully. I will definitely knit this pattern again, maybe changing up the colours a bit more next time.

This is my second completed scarf from the book. I made Ene in a camel coloured alpaca as my first choice. I am currently two-thirds done my third scarf: a Misty Garden, using Noro Silk Garden. I'm sure that won't be the last. Like so many of you, I love almost every pattern in the book. Drop by my blog if you want to see some of my other projects.

Vintage Velvet

I paid attention this time, didn't walk away from the washer, and 10 minutes seemed to be the charm (might even go for 8 next time around). The terracotta color looked even more beautiful (less orangey) felted and my sister seemed to love it. Here she is, modelling and holding up her Lorna's Laces socks.

Finished Wandering Aran Fields

Hi, I finished up my Wandering Aran Fields capelet this past week.
I used about 3 1/2 skeins of Cascade 220 in color #2401 burgandy. The cables show up pretty well with this yarn. This was my first time using Cascade 220. I enjoyed working the cable section. The 9 inches of ribbing for the collar is a lot of ribbing to knit if you know what I mean but it looks nice now that it's done. I'm pretty happy with the way this turned out.

Once I "got" the stitch pattern it was fun. Alpaca was very soft to knit with. I was a bit concerned it might be scratchy, but after soaking in warm water and drying, it became even softer. Recipient reports it is comfortable.

I fell in love with Ene last year when I attempted it for the Knitting Olympics but failed miserably. One year later I was able to finish in only 14 days (must have been all that training). I used Blackberry Ridge silk blend laceweight in the dark chicory colorway.

This is the third scarf I've knit from ScarfStyle and I'm not done yet! Next up I'm considering Forbes Forest or perhaps the Not-So-Plain Geometric Scarf (which looks like an Olympic feat...has anyone made this one? and if so what did you think?)

Off Center Argyle Finished

I finished my Off-Center Argyle Sunday night! It took me about two weeks, (while working on a couple of other projects) which is pretty fast for me. I love the colors and fit :) The only modification I made was to the collar and it was for gauge issues with the brown yarn. More details on my blog.

I have been admiring this shawl for such a long time. I finally decided to make one myself. It was presented to my Mom who loves everything that her daughter crafts.
I used Henry's Attic Kona Superwash, wtmytc (way too many yards to count), and size 8 Addis. It came out very big; that's an oversized chair that it draped on. Kindly excuse the mess. The picture was taken at Christmas, in my home with 20 houseguests!

Snuggly Ruffles

Hi, Here is the famous Ruffles scarf done in Louisa Harding Kimono Angora shade # 02. It is so soft and snuggerific in this yarn.

I knitted this for an exchange buddie for Christmas, and I'm glad to say she approves.

Like with most projects I reached a point where I was wishing it was all over, but up to that point I enjoyed making it and loved the way these amazing corkscrews were unfolding under my hands.

I wasn't quite gripped by this one when I saw it in the book originally, but all your lovely versions prompted me to take the plunge and I'm glad I did.
Now, what next?

Lace from the Sea

The Shetland Triangle shawl is great for conference-knitting when you can't spend every moment looking at your knitting or a pattern.

I knit it from luxurious Handmaiden Sea Silk, easy to knit with and luscious to touch. The yarn is a bit slippery so I recommend using a bamboo needle.

Using 11 pattern repeats to give a 6 ft. width to the shawl, I used all of one ball plus just enough extra to bind off the final row. (I think my husband may knit this same shawl with the second ball and knit only 10 repeats.)

If you want to be removed so that you can convert to the new Blogger, please e-mail me with "Remove from Scarf Style Knit-Along" in the subject line. I need to have the email address you signed up with in order to process your request. I don't read every comment in the blog, and cannot easily see your email address if you leave a comment, so all requests need to be made via e-mail.

I strongly encourage people to not ask to be removed, as you won't be able to participate in the blog until it is converted. Since Blogger isn't offering the new Blogger to team blogs for the near future, that could be quite some time from now.

I'm unsure as to why people cannot convert while a member of this blog, since Blogger says it shouldn't be a problem; I suspect it's an unaticipated glitch that hasn't been corrected yet. The support desk is backlogged due to problems associated with the new format, so I don't expect to hear from them anytime soon.

EDIT: If you would like to rejoin the knit-along after you convert, please send another invitation request after you've completed the switch.

The new Blogger

The new Blogger is now out of beta, meaning that accounts will be switched as support for them is available; those of you with larger blogs with a lot of comments will not be able to switch to the new version yet.

At this time, since this is such a large blog, this knit-along can't be converted. According to Blogger, if you switch to the new version, you will still be able to access this group, but it will still be in the old format. You will not be able to use the features of the new Blogger with this particular blog.

When this blog does switch to the new version, you will NOT be able to access it unless your account is also converted, unless you ask for an invitation and another is sent out. For the obvious reasons, I'd like to avoid doing this, so I hope that once I'm able to switch to the new version of Blogger, the rest of you do so as well.

The new version addresses one of the biggest things lacking with Blogger vs. other blogging software, and that is labels or tags. After the switch, it'll be easy to categorize old and new posts alike to make searching for information and seeing each other's progress even easier.

Lady E again!

Here's some WIP pictures of my Lady E . I was halfway through in 10 days and I was really sure I was going to finish in time to wear it for New Year's day but then excruciating and nagging wrist and shoulder pain hit me, so I've had to put the E down for now as it feels quite heavy on my sensitive hands :(
I am knitting my Lady E in Patons SWS yarn in Natural Plum. I just love the beeeautiful shades of purple and fuchsia in this yarn. Hope to finish it soon. Doesn't my little bear look nice and snug in it?

A Lovely Compliment

Here are pictures of Forbes Forest in Knitpicks Merino Style (color: moss) and Misty Garden in Jo Sharp Mohair (color: rosehip) that I made for 2 of my boys' teachers (the other two also got scarves, but not from Scarf Style).

I really put a lot of thought into what each one would like, so I was thrilled when after the holidays, one came up, gave me a big hug and said "That scarf was ME!" She went on to say that they all couldn't get over how perfect each one was for that recipient. That was the nicest compliment I could have received. Ruffles

I finally started something from Scarf Style! I often browse through the book but having a lot too much on the needles I've always hesitated to start some more. But then I fell over some yarn from my stash and I immediately saw it as Ruffles... It is a pale yellow cotton/viscose blend, I have 150g and a leftover ball. Will see how far I get! I started and have about inches or so done. I think I will love it! At least I already love knitting it!!!

FO Awhile Ago: Shippo Tail Scarf

I came to knitting by way of spinning, rather than the other way around. So I'm fascinated by fibers, and the description of the "yarn" in the Shippo Tail Scarf pattern really intrigued me.

I found a kit online, ordered it, and made it. I finished it last spring (blush) but didn't post finished pics.

I really like the yarn - it was interesting to work with, and I like the result:

I'm posting this FO because I had a lot of the paper and silk stainless left over after following the pattern. I remembered it when I got "Alterknits" for Christmas and there's a pattern that calls for the paper. I pulled it out to try out the pattern, and I've realized as I go just HOW MUCH of the paper yarn was left when I finished my scarf. In retrospect, I would have made it much longer and wider.

My only other advice for working with this yarn for anyone who wants to try it is: Wood needles. Seriously. It's really slippery - like "I put down my work on my lap, the needle tilted and then slid right out all my stitches. Forunately, the stitch definition on paper is *very* good and its easy to slide the needle right back in...,
